Socializing in Japan for foreigners has gotten a whole lot easier.

The Japanese social networking site Mixi (ミクシイ) has changed their registration policy. For about a year, Mixi required new users to enter a Japanese mobile phone email address to verify their registrations.

This is no longer the case, users no longer need a Japanese mobile account.

How do I get a Mixi ミクシイ account?

Although a Japanese mobile phone number is no longer required, the social network is still invitation only, so you must receive an invitation from someone who is already a member to register an account. Find someone who has an account and ask them for an invite.

The Official Mixi ミクシイ Member Invite Request Thread

Do you need a Mixi ミクシイ invite? Please leave your email on this post. For those of you who are lucky enough to have Mixi already, please grant these people an invite. Let’s help each other out!

Next up on the menu at Mcdonald’s Japan is the hot and tasty bacon potato pie. Breakfast doesn’t get any greasier than this. I think Japan is well on its way to catching up with the obesity rate of America, and this is just one new snack that will help it on its way.

Hmm, where have I seen this before?

The Japanese like to do things a little bit differently. Before dining on their seafood, they have been known to

jump in and get a little more friendly with their dinner. It gives the name ‘cuttle fish’ a whole new meaning.

A foreign woman was pulled over in Kanagawa prefecture for traveling 58 km and hour over the speed limit, which was filmed on camera. Japan’s “Real Time News” was able to get ahold of the footage and share it on national television.

When the officer started talking to her, she first tried to act like she couldn’t speak Japanese, but as he continued to talk to her he noticed that she could understand what he was saying and she started to speak in Japanese. She went on to say to him that Japan doesn’t treat foreigners like humans and that she is going to kill herself.

The officer gave her a ticket, and told her that she could dispute it in court. But being that the whole episode was caught on camera, and that she lied at first that she couldn’t speak Japanese, I think her chances are about zilch that she can get out of it. She was caught red handed, not only speeding but lying as well.

So what do you think of it? A couple drawbacks I found were that the same girl usually holds up the time card a couple times in a row, which may frustrate those who are ready to move on to another fresh face. Also if you visit it the same time each day you may find the same girl for the same time.
